While there are traces of the makers name and town showing on the dial, I was unable to make out either, though the mechanism is clearly Austrian. This faux-finished piece is in very nice to excellent condition, with a case in the beautiful deep maroons of a mahogany or perhaps rosewood faux-finish. This case has had some nicely done restoration work to the door and perhaps the base - one can tell because they look very nice.
What is a dwarf? To me it is a clock with a dial and a pendulum bob that are larger than one would expect for the length of the case. And this clock is an excellent example with its 7.5 inch dial, 5.5 inch bob, 30 inch case, short, fat little weight that is only 2 5/8 inch long: It looks so cute, but definitely has different proportions from the classical Vienna Regulator.
Note too the very exquisitely pierced hands: These hands are works of art. The pendulum bob is zinc backed, the dial looks very good though it does have two hairline cracks to the chapter ring. Getting to know this clock is like exploring a treasure chamber - every time you look at another feature you are surprised and pleased by the quality. If you want a small clock, one with a lot of character, one that is just a bit unusual, but oh so cute...
Caveats - The clock has no headpiece, the door glass looks relatively new, and the wall stabilizers are new.
