A grateful thank you to the Austrian collector who helped me to identify the location of this clock. The city, where the clockmacker lived is
definitely BRAUNAU am INN in Oberösterreich (upper-Austria). This is one of the wonderful aspects of being on the internet. Thank you!
I could not find any last names listed in Claterbos that ended in “eo”. Nonetheless, the clock has a nearly perfect dial (with 3 or 4 barely discernable hairline cracks), single piece anchor, wooden
seat board, and a quality mechanism appropriate for a Viennese clock.
This lovely clock with the striking maroon tint, has its
original finish in very nice condition. The case includes the lovely narrow
columns found on Austrian pieces of this period. The head-piece and finials are
original to the clock, and in great condition. And it has matching and correct
weights, pulleys, the pendulum bob/rod appear to be original, though the bob has
a couple of small dings. Note the wall stabilizers, with their correct and
original locking nuts - a lovely and rare detail. This really is a nice clock.
Caveat - the door is warped roughly 1/4 inch out at the top. This is
not noticeable when looking at the clock unless your are beside the clock and
looking specifically at the gap between the door and the case.
